I have been taking Biotin 5000 mcg a day and my hair has gotten thicker!  I do not like the texture of my hair, but I am glad it isn't coming out in handfuls when I brush.

Annabelle,
I completely agree!!!
I had coarse thick hair all my life until 3months to 6months postop I then lost 60-70% of my hair and now at 9months out I have  soft and thickening hair. Even my hair dresser of 10 years says this is the best my hair has ever been. I take 5000mg of Biotin everymorning but I also take Silica plus(horsetail extract 600mg-taste nasty but if it works its worth it!) before bed.
Take your Biotin( I never took it before surgery ,wish I did)
TGIF!! Have a GREAT day!!

I wish I had known about this before surgery also.  I was at my support group and was able to tell someone else about Biotin.  Of course one person had to be negative about it,  but we can't help everyone!.....LOL

This is one of my biggest fears, and with me having surgery in 2.5 weeks not sure I have time to start taking the biotin. I purchased the 5000mg a couple of days ago, but my question is will I be able to take the capsules after surgery? I thought all of our medication/supplements needed to be chewable, liquid or should be in powder form.

Oh and TGIF to everyone.

I was told by many, that they started before surgery, and they didn't have the hair loss I had.  I wish I had known about before my surgery.  You will not be able to take it for about 2 weeks or maybe 3, but it will still help to get it in your body.

I see your concerns, but I dont  think anything can be bigger than those calcium citrate pills we start taking at 2 weeks out and the only suggestion given by my PA was I to put them in my crystal light and they would dissolve if I couldnt get them down whole. Trust me it was easiesr swallowing them whole than drinking 12oz of fluid while they dissolved.
I took all my vitamins, all my protein and couldnt believe I did everything textbook and my hair was falling out, I didnt start taking the biotin until 4weeks after surgery  when I went in for my first month check up and the PA at my doctors office said it was Okay it couldnt hurt,  but surely wish I did it much sooner, my hair, nails and skin is so much healthier post op than ever.
Check with your doctors office, cant wait to move over for you on the losers bench!!
